Wallace

One fine spring morning William Wallace went fishing in the river near Irvine, he managed to catch six fine trout and decided it was a lucky day for him. The boy with him put the trout in a basket to take home and they packed to go home.

Just then two English soldiers rode by and Wallace growled up at them, although a big man himself, these two were on horse back. The English had invaded Scotland, Wallace1s homeland, and Wallace hated them with a passion.

One of the English soldiers made a grab for the basket of fish declaring the fish would make a fine breakfast. Naturally Wallace was rather annoyed at this action, but knowing that the conquerors could make trouble for him and his people, he suggested a compromise and offered the soldiers half the fish.

The English soldiers felt they should have it all and one drew his sword to make his point. This was not a good idea as Wallace was a powerful man and very dangerous in a rage. In fact Wallace lost his temper and forgot about all the consequences of killing the English. Wallace took up his fishing rod and hit the soldier with the drawn sword so hard that he fell down dead.

The other rode off at top speed to spread the word of what had happened. William Wallace became an out law. And in the search for him the English Sheriff of Ayr killed Wallace's 1st wife, Marion Wallace. The stage was now set for William Wallace to become Scotland's Great Patriarch.
