Nature

The Sun

The sun is on fire In the sky And in its warmth Flowers open In the garden And the butterfly flutters by. Wings widespread It stops to feed At the flower bed And on its favourite flower The butterfly settles Like two extra petals.

Cat in the Dark

By John Agard Look at that ! Look at that ! But when you look there's no cat Without a purr just a flash of fur and gone like a ghost. The most you see are two tiny traffic lights staring at the night.

The Daffodil

By Emma Sophie George The Daffodil is my lighthouse to spring It shines a spring message on every thing The leaves and the stem are the stairs and the tower On top of it all stands this beautiful flower The trumpet is the light and the petals are the beams In the centre of it all the yellow pollen gleams It shines and shines how wonderful it seems I find it lighting up my dreams

Yellow Weed

Lillian Moore How did you get here weed? Who brought your seed? Did it lift on the wind and sail and drift from a for and yellow field? Was your seed a burr, a sticky burr that clung to a fox's furry tail? Did it fly with the bird who liked to feed on the tasty seed of the yellow weed? How did you come ? Plant a sunflower in a pot.... How many sunflowers have you hot? Wet each one a little bit - pour some water over it- When the seeds are deep inside, yellow petals spreading wide soon will grow as tall as you! Hello, sunflower, How do you do?

All Things Connect

Chief Seattle 1885 All things are banded together. All things connect. What happens to the earth , Happens to the children of the earth. Man has not woven the web of life, He is but one thread. Whatever he does to the web, He does to himself.

Slugs

John Kitching Slugs, slugs Crawl though grass, Watching all the beetles As they scurry past. Slugs, slugs Crawl so slow Leaving tracks of silver Where ever they go. Slugs, slugs Crawl all along the wall Popping little horns out Make no sound at all.

Noise

anon I like noise The whoop of a boy, the thud of a hoof. The rattle of rain on a galvanized roof. The hubbub of traffic, the roar of a train. The throb of machinery numbing the brain. The barking of dogs, the bleat of a lamb The rush of the wind, a door on the slam. The boom of thunder, a crash of waves. The din of the river that races and raves. The crack of a rifle, the clank of pails. The bang and the hammer of knocking in nails From any old sound that silence destroys. Arises a note of soul stirring joys. I like noise.
